Getting There from Mumbai

Mumbai to Lakshadweep Flight

There are no direct flights from Mumbai to Agatti. The simplest way to start a Lakshadweep package tour from Mumbai is one IndiGo ticket with a change of plane in Kochi. As per the current plan, an early morning flight from Mumbai will drop on Agatti before noon, which is roughly six hours.

Later flights from Mumbai also mean a long wait in Kochi.

Fly91 also flies from Kochi to Agatti, so Kochi has the most seats to the island. These flights are not all available daily, so please call us first and we will verify the dates before you commit to paying.

If you prefer to begin the trip from Kochi, you can check out our Lakshadweep tour from Kochi.

If You Want an Earlier Start: Fly via Goa

Fly91 flies from Goa's Mopa airport (Manohar International, code GOX) to Agatti every day on its current schedule. This flight leaves early in the morning and takes approximately two hours, so you arrive at Agatti before the Kochi flight arrives.

It is an early departure, so you must arrive in Goa on the previous day. Fly, train or drive down from Mumbai and stay close to the airport. There are two airports in Goa: Mopa (GOX) and Dabolim (GOI), so be sure that your flight lands in Mopa.

Three Things to Know About Agatti Flights

  • Small planes only: Only propeller planes can land at Agatti, due to the short runway.
  • Less baggage: These planes have less space for luggage than a regular airplane. Before packing, see the limit that is written on your ticket.
  • Few flights a day: When flights are cancelled, you're likely to wait a day, not an hour. Don't make any important plans the morning after you return by flight from Mumbai.

How Far Agatti Is from Mumbai

Agatti is roughly 920 km from Mumbai in a straight line out in the Arabian sea. It has no road, so you will either have to fly or take a sea route.

By Sea

Cordelia Cruises runs Lakshadweep sailings out of Mumbai. You sleep on the ship, and the ship docks at Agatti (or Kavaratti for some sailings) for a portion of one day. This is a cruise holiday, not a holiday on an island. We book Cordelia cruise packages from Mumbai too.

The government passenger ships do not sail from Mumbai. They leave from Kochi, Beypore and Mangalore, are booked on the IRCTC Lakshadweep website, and stop in the monsoon.

The quickest way for most to get to Lakshadweep from Mumbai is by flying through Kochi.

Five Days on Agatti

Here is the day-by-day plan for your Lakshadweep trip from Mumbai. The days are intentionally slow-paced.

We meet you at Agatti Airport, take you to your resort for a welcome drink, and serve lunch. Later in the afternoon, visit the island: the museum, the eastern and western jetties, the beach at the lagoon, the fish hatchery and the Antham beach.

  • Overnight: Agatti
  • Lunch, Dinner

Morning in the lagoon. Kayaking and snorkelling are free. Scuba diving and other rides cost extra and are paid on the island. Late in the day, a glass bottom boat takes you to Kalpitti, a small empty island close by, for the coral and the sunset.

  • Overnight: Agatti
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Nothing is planned. Swim, read, nap or ride around the island on a two-wheeler (we can arrange this if you need one). A campfire, a cultural show or a candle light dinner can be set up on request. Please ask us if there is any charge.

  • Overnight: Agatti
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A private boat takes your group out to look for dolphins, then stops at the reef so you can snorkel from the boat. However, dolphins are wild animals and there is no guarantee of sightings, but the boat departs anyway. Lunch is resumed at the resort and the rest of the day is yours.

  • Overnight: Agatti
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will transfer you to Agatti Airport for your flight to Kochi or Goa for Mumbai.

Permit and ID

Everyone Needs a Permit

All visitors to Lakshadweep must have an entry permit including Indians. We apply for yours as part of the Lakshadweep package tour from Mumbai.

It Got Easier in May 2026

No local sponsor required on islands or police clearance certificate. Checks are now carried out by the Lakshadweep police once you apply. There are still a lot of sites that state the old rules.

Your Permit Names Your Island

The permit includes islands that are available for visits. Once you've arrived there, you cannot add another island. This package covers Agatti, with the boat trip to Kalpitti.

What to Send Us

Send each traveller's government photo ID and a photo, well before your trip. Please be specific about the list and how many days the permit will require for your dates.

Foreign Visitors

Foreign nationals may visit, but only certain islands and the checks are lengthy. Tell us your nationality when you first get in touch.

When to Go

The Season

Visit from October to mid-May. The sea is calm and the water is clear from December to March. Monsoon season is from mid-May to September. Those months the sea is rough, ships stop and water sports are closed.

Heat Is Not the Problem, Rain Is

Lakshadweep experiences warm temperatures throughout the year, averaging at 28°C. What changes is the rain.

Note: If you are based in Mumbai, the monsoon period on the island is also the same as that of Mumbai, which means it is not a rainy season getaway.

Agatti and the Islands Nearby

Agatti

A long narrow coral island with a quiet shallow lagoon on one side. The shallow waters make it easy for the first timers to enjoy snorkelling and kayaking here.

Kalpitti

A small island at the tip of Agatti where no one lives. You travel on a glass bottomed boat for the coral and sunset.

Islands This Package Does Not Cover

This Lakshadweep package tour from Mumbai does not include the islands of Kavaratti, Bangaram, Thinnakara, Kadmat, Kalpeni and Minicoy. They all require their own permit and own travel plan. Ask us if you want to add one.

Food, Culture and Island Rules

Food

Meals are mostly seafood, with tuna, coconut and rice. There is no pork. Vegetarian and Jain food can be prepared, but food will be brought by boat, please inform us at booking if any person requires vegetarian and Jain food or has an allergy. It can't be simply sorted out over dinner.

Alcohol

Lakshadweep was dry for many years. Alcohol is now available under licence in the new law ‘Lakshadweep Excise Regulation 2026’ which came into effect on 5 June 2026. Check if the resort is licensed for serving it or not, ask us. Do not carry your own.

How to Behave

Agatti is home to a small community, and most people are Muslim. Dress modestly away from the beach. Please ask first before taking photos of others. Avoid touching or standing on the coral, and do not collect shells or coral.

Before You Pack

Cash

Agatti has a limited number of ATMs, and cards may not be accepted. Take enough cash from Mumbai.

Phone and Internet

The signal is weaker and slower than Mumbai. Don't expect to work on the island.

Sun and Water

There is little shade on the beach. Bring a hat, a rash guard and strong sunscreen. There is a limited supply of fresh water; use sparingly.

What to Bring

  • Water shoes for walking into the lagoon.
  • A dry bag for your phone on boat days.
  • Any medicines you need. There is no chemist to fall back on.
  • Light, modest clothes for walking around the village.
  • A soft bag that fits the small plane's baggage limit.

Who This Trip Is For

Families

The lagoon is shallow and calm, and the days are easy. Children who can swim will love it. A family of four fits the group price well. Send everyone's ages with your enquiry.

Couples

If you are looking at Lakshadweep honeymoon packages from Mumbai, this trip works well for two: quiet beaches, no crowds and a free day in the middle. For a room set up for couples and a beach dinner, our Lakshadweep honeymoon package is built for it.

Older Travellers

Everything is optional and the water is calm. Just keep in mind the small plane, the boat trips and the limited medical help on the island.

Not the Right Trip If

You want nightlife, shopping or lots of restaurants. Or your return date cannot move, because Agatti flights can be cancelled by weather. The Lakshadweep package tour from Mumbai suits people who want a slow, quiet beach week.
